(W.A. Swainson 1823) - Common name Giant Pacific Conch - Size range 150mm-240mm - Range: Sea of Cortez to Peru to Galapagos
Collected live by local panga boat hooka divers near Puerto Penasco, Mexico. 7-10 meters depth. Tides range 7 meters / 24 feet near Puerto Penasco, so the divers usually go out during low tides to collect murex and other species for meat, including this strombus.
I did not clean this shell, the snail was removed by the local Mexican fisherman, for once I am shocked, as there is no damage. The periostracum is completely intact, little to no buildup. The coloring is superb. This is why I am grading this specimen at F++/GEM.
